Happy 3rd Birthday, Teaspoon

February 28th, 2012 4 comments

I really have no words to express how proud I am of this little guy and trying to rationalize the time that has passed since his birth is impossible. 3 years ago today I held my first child in my arms, weighing in at just over 3 pounds,  before he would be whisked away by 15 nurses to the N.I.C.U. to be hooked up to machines for the next 4 weeks. Scared, terrified, and wasn’t sure what was going to happen. Doctor kept telling us that he was a fighter. 3 years later they couldn’t have been more right.

With the energy of his mother and the persistence of his father this 33lb brick house is… wait, am I writing an intro to NFL Films?

Teaspoon, you’ve been an amazing little man in our lives and an incredible big brother to the O-man. Thanks for making the last 3 years an incredible ride and I smile with pride as I watch you grow up. You’re already rocking at pre-school and have shown a passion for hockey (thank you God!), are a role model to your younger bro and have better manners than most adults. Raise a bottle of chocolate milk buddy, you can kick the Most Interesting Man in the World’s ass.

36? When did THAT happen

February 21st, 2012 2 comments

I’m having a really difficult time judging time lately. Yesterday was the 3yr anniversary of when I was given my walking papers from Ericsson as the company started its shutdown process. Since then I’m making a living off a career that didn’t exist back then (well it did but but I don’t think anyone took it seriously), bought a house, had 2 kids and graduated college.

In other words things have been moving pretty fast and I haven’t had time to stop and look around which would explain how 36 crept up on me. Is it the downside of 30 or push for 40? I always put relation of age to where/what my brother was doing then which is a bad idea since it was the early 90′s. Lushie informed me that I’m at the age now that her mother was when we met. *UGH*

I was going to put a pic of myself as a squirt but decided at the last minute to refrain — the fact that the scanner is in my bedroom and if that thing wakes up the kids I’m a dead man.

I’ve been reading a couple of books that have made me re-evaluate how I do things online and approach business opportunities I passed on in the last year. What’s coming up will be fun, different and creative. The hardest realization was coming to terms with what I can do with my limited free time and being very selective going forward on what I can/can’t do.

Nothing over the top planned this year but one tradition I will keep is calling my mom this afternoon at the time I was born and ask her if she remembers how awesome my birth was. She’ll lie and say it was beautiful, I’ve watched the birth of both of my sons and know that my mom probably called my dad a slew of profanities.

cheers!

Oh OK here’s ONE picture.

Happy 2nd birthday Teaspoon

February 28th, 2011 6 comments

My oldest turns 2 years old &  my youngest hits 2 months today.

With all of the hardship that happened on Teaspoon’s birth and his time in the NICU I’m blessed to have a healthy and happy son today.

Enjoy your pass to be a maniac, tomorrow I go back to laying down the law :)

Here are pics from his birthday party over the weekend at the Toy Lending Library

The birthday recap – 34th edition

February 24th, 2010 4 comments

My 34th birthday was Sunday and overall my weekend was pretty uneventful which is kinda how I wanted it. Most people have the 25 freak out, me its 34. I’ve always dreaded that age because when I was growing up I remember thinking how old my brother seemed at that age and now I’m there. What do you expect, I was 16 at the time so in perspective it’s similar to my nephew/godson Ben right now.

Lushie calls me last Wednesday to say that the ceiling in the kitchen is falling in. I get home and see our beloved vagina ceiling which I’ve now named Betty White. We both agree that her and Teaspoon should go to her mother’s for the weekend since the landlord said he would be over to fix it. Friday morning arrives, they leave and I wait… and wait…. and wait… and well you get the picture. I burned 2 vacation days to wait for repairs that never came. I love this guy.

Once late afternoon rolled around and I realized I was stood up there was only one thing I could do; buy a case of beverage. If you’re unfamiliar with my birthday treat I present to you the Weyerbacher Big Beers case ($54/case)

You may be scratching your head as to why I selected this one. When I first started ever performing beer reviews this was my first case which was purchased with Griff. The smallest AVB is 9% in this variety case.  In it you will find Old Heathen(10%), Double Simcoe IPA (9%), Blithering Idiot(11%) and Merry Monks Ale (9.3%).

Dinner Friday night night was; bah who am I kidding it was a Friday during Lent… I didn’t eat. I got word that our big surprise for SIDT was happening that day and not a week later so after catching my breath and checking a few things made the decision that I wasn’t going to spend my first bachelor birthday weekend doing any work. I’ll have time for that this week.

Saturday was spent with 2 things on my mind, NHL10 and BBQ. One of those two took me down for the count and it wasn’t the video game. I went to Smokey Bones for a rack of ribs and would soon find out this would be an epic fail.  You’re gonna have to wait to find out why though. Its worthy of its own post.

Saturday night was me, curling and chatting online until almost sunrise. Damn you west coasters but thanks for the birthday wishes and great time :)

Sunday, the birthday, was pretty mellow and I chilled at home, visited some fam and then the house was packed once again with Teaspoon craziness.

So there’s my recap. I have plenty of posts coming up when I’m dodging falling ceiling.

eve of change

February 20th, 2010 3 comments

1 year ago today my 10+ year career came to an end at ForeSystems/Marconi/Ericsson and since then life has been most educational. I don’t think anyone ever knew how close I was to packing up the family and moving out of state. Thankfully I said no and now have an amazing job doing something I love.

There isn’t much to say about the last day. I came in at 9am, turned in my laptop at 11 and was unemployed by 11:30am. I left immediately because, and this you probably didn’t know either, went downtown to meet with Dennis Roddy from the Post Gazette. He wanted to do a story on me about unemployment and how I was going to handle being a dad-to-be and jobless. The story never went to press (at least not that i know of) but he did take some incredible video I heard. Hey Dennis, still have it?  It was an emotional interview and he was smart getting me moments after I was let go.

So now we’re here 1 year later and on the eve of my 34th birthday. I have a great job, a fantastic family that I would do anything for even when Teaspoon beats on me while I sleep and I have a giant vagina in my ceiling. Eh, 2 outta 3 ain’t bad.

Happy Birthday bro!

OK, his birthday was actually last Friday but he was out of town and I wanted to make sure I got this posted when he was back. Bucco Bob turned the big 5-0 last Friday. Now I try to make it a point not to post much about my family, outside of me and Lushie at least, on here but I couldn’t let this one slide. I’ll be taking him out shortly for some fine craft beverages and to remind him that while someday I’ll be 50 it won’t be for 18 more years :)   Then again I teased him when he turned 30 and here I am at 32.  Maybe I should keep my trap shut :)

Cheers brotha!
