2009 Stanley Cup Champions Ring

September 30th, 2009 douglas 2 comments

2009StanleyCupRing

From pittsburghpenguins.com
Each 14 karat white and yellow gold ring contains 167 diamonds, totaling approximately 4.50 carats of diamonds and averaging approximately 100 grams of gold. The top of the ring is crowned with a custom-cut black onyx imbedded with a 1.3 carat pear-shaped diamond to create the Penguins logo. The logo is placed on an image of the Stanley Cup, which is sitting on a bed of round diamonds replicating the arena and ice surface.

The ring is further adorned with 12 princess-cut diamonds on each side of the shanks. The title “Stanley Cup Champions” is written along the ring’s left and right outer rim/bezel. The left side of the ring features the player’s name and number as well as a list of the team four playoff series victories. The right side of the ring has the year 2009 split with three Stanley Cups, adorned in diamonds. The two outer Stanley Cups are inscribed on top with 91 and 92, paying homage to the Penguins’ two previous championships.

Holy freaking ring! When Sid was on the news showing the media his new ring you’d think that it weighed more than the cup. What I think is an ironic twist is that the Steelers, who are more “yo yo yo lookit my bling yo! its the shizzle dawg!” have a smaller ring than a group of guys who are most likely to put it on a shelf in their house and be “yeah that’s cool… but I drank from the cup!”.

Ahhh hockey season is less than 72 hours away.

What a beautiful world…

You’ve got to make a serious decision…

After I was laid off I was lost. Since high school I was never without a job for more than a couple weeks and all of a sudden I was 33, unemployed, a baby on the way and no clue to what was next. Teaspoon was born 2 months early pushing the whole world into hyperactive mode and me into a tizzy.

While I was driving the back roads of Cranberry one morning, after Teaspoon’s extended stay in the NICU had ended, I heard this song on XM.

Stop! Take some time to think, figure out what’s important to you.

Stop! Take some time to think, figure out what’s important to you.
You’ve got to make a serious decision.

It was at this moment I knew something needed to change and that set into motion everything which has happened in the last 2 months along with what I have planned in the near future. I love being a father and a husband. This is gonna be fun.

Getting yinz caught up n’at

September 25th, 2009 douglas 2 comments

I can’t believe it has been almost 2 weeks since I’ve been able to make solid posts. I can honestly say that I’ve been THAT busy and Lushie will be happy when this week is over. I always joked when I started at FORE Systems it was baptism by fire on many things but I was able to slide into that job, now it has been non stop assignments and I love it! Learning a new CMS on the fly is really the only way to understand it and my workload has been jam packed with opportunities. The crazy bitch in the TV commercial that gets up all excited for work as a medical assistant… yeah that’s me now. Well, in a tech field though wearing scrubs would be hella comfy.

Now that some of the weight on my shoulders has been lifted I can get caught up so here’s what you can expect. Review of Steel City Big Pour, recap of Beer School, review of Pearl Jam’s new CD Backspacer, my new geek toy, G20, Podcamp Pittsburgh 4, The New Car, the future of SIDT, Teaspoon and other random things.

cheers!

I’m pretty stoked that we have the chance to do this. I’m still writing the show notes/program for the night so we’ll see what makes the cut. We only have an hour so 4 beers and bullshitting in that time plus yinz guys eating, oh yeah I’m already trying to shorten the list. Here is my recap from last year so you can get an idea of all that happens at these parties. Next year, SIDT is winning something, I just havent figured out what yet. Guess it should be legal though.

cheers!

I’m too old for sneaker shopping

September 1st, 2009 douglas 9 comments

sneaker

I don’t know if I’m alone in this but I’m not a fan of… no I HATE, shopping for sneakers. Shoes I don’t mind so much because it’s usually work related but when it comes to my sneaks, leave them alone.  I have 2 pairs that I wear, my chucks (which I luuuurve) and my running shoes that I wear for just about everything. They’re comfy, they’re broken in and quite frankly they’re kickass. My buddy Drew buys a new pair of shoes I swear every 2 months. Why? Beats me. He says he’s stylin, I say he’s insane.

This past weekend we took Teaspoon to Grove City Outlets to blow some stink off him and be around other people besides Noggin, Sprout and the caves of our house. The first stop was to the Reebok store and that was more than enough for me. Lushie really wanted me to get new sneakers so I could wear them at my new job. I entertained the idea and gave it a shot. I’m past the point of running shoes because really, my fat ass isn’t living in denial, I’m not running anywhere. I’ll walk and jog but running? HA! (*note: I do plan on playing hockey this fall so we’ll tackle that beast when it gets here*) I didn’t see cross trainers which leads me to believe I dated my self to the associate.

Me: “You mean Bo Jackson Cross Trainers aren’t made any more?
Associate: “uhhhh Who’s Bo Jackson?”

Tragic

I finally see the shoes pictured above and notice it has a setting switch. A SWITCH! ON A SHOE!  I don’t want a robot on my feet, I just want a goddamn sneaker that I can walk around in and look fly. I know what style is, I used to own the original Air Jordans when I was in 5th grade! I’m then told there are some shoes which report back to my ipod ( which I’m not cool enough to own ) at the Nike outlet.

We left sneakerless and a broken shell of my youth.

Say what you want, Bo Still Knows.
