This is the most important machine to us right now. That monitors Teaspoon’s heartbeat, Lushie’s blood pressure and contractions. Lushie is only 32 weeks along and as of 12pm yesterday we’ve been residents of UPMC. I wasn’t going to post anything but the wife insisted I do something to not go stir crazy in this chair. I’m taking full advantage of UPMC’s free wifi in the room
It is pretty cool to be sitting in this chair and listening to his heartbeat on the speaker. Actually rather soothing.
The contractions are for the most part coming under control and tomorrow morning we will have the results of some tests that were done. I admit that I was terrified for awhile but there is a top notch staff helping us out and I was assured Teaspoon is in excellent health. Come on buddy, you just need to cook for a few more weeks! 8 would be fantastic!
This isn’t something they tell you to be ready for and if it wasn’t for Lamaze class showing us breathing techniques it would be an even longer night. Lushie is jacked too because we had just gone grocery shopping when the contractions started and wouldn’t you know it, all of the meats, dips and cheese had to get tossed. Tragic.
I want to thanks everyone who has txt/emailed us support and a big thanks to my bro for bringing me some grub for dinner. I haven’t had an appetite for much but that hit the spot!
cheers!

This is it! Lushie’s big present! She said that since today is my last full day at work I need something to pick up my spirits and go out in style. For years I’ve said that I wanted to get my own jersey and never have. Something always came up and I’d blow it off. Apparently she’s had this planned since the season started and it’s been killing her not to say anything.
Now to explain the jersey. 22 is the number I usually wear in sports and it’s also the date in October when we got married. I guess you can also say it’s Groundhog Day with 2/2. Spoon is a nickname I was given in college by Griff (long story if you don’t know it) and always stuck as even my family calls me that more than my real name. The “C”, Lushie tells me, is because I’m the captain of our family and when Jackson arrives he can be my little “A”.
I’m not taking this off until Lushie rips it from me!
cheers!

(Chris, Bob and I at my bday party in 2001)
Some of you may recall from last year that Lushie and I love to celebrate Birthday Week. This year I insisted that we take a hiatus on it since I’m being laid off the day before my birthday and I don’t want that added strain on a 30 week pregnant Lushie. She insisted and it began.
What I like most about it are the small things. Every day I wake up to a card, a kiss. (awww nice eh?) and a special rub of the baby belly. Inside each card is a “Good for” coupon she writes. One day it’s “I’ll pay for a good car wash” or “6pk of your choice from 3 Sons.” Yesterday was a new watch since my $12 cheapie was stolen (hahaha suckers) and today was a University of Pittsburgh ball cap. We’re going to hit a brewery and a few fine craft beer establishments this weekend so that right there would have been fine but Lushie insists that she has one kickass present that’s the greatest gift ever and I will open a day early because “you’re gonna need it.” Not sure what that could be since I already have the perfect present in her belly.
So here’s to birthday week. Cheers to everyone else celebrating right now and for those who don’t… srsly, you’re missing out.
cheers!

Think I could make that any bigger? Of course but I won’t.
I have had very little free time the last 12 days and that calendar which I have at my desk shows why. Layoff day comes Friday morning and I’ve been busier in the last 2 weeks than I have in years. There’s getting ready for the baby, replacing the hardware that I have to return on Friday, finals for school, getting financials in order to transfer from my company.
The end all be all of the past week was when Lushie’s car blew a head gasket on 279 Friday afternoon. Seriously, who did I piss off to get this kinda hex? We won’t get that back until next week some time so we’re carpooling for a couple more days.
That is all. I promise more quality posts coming soon, I just need to catch my breath.

Creepy little guy isn’t he? The doll, not me.
As our date into parenthood gets closer Lushie decided that we should take infant/adult CPR classes because, lets face it, kids eat anything they can’t gnaw off.
I went in not knowing what to expect. The last time I took a CPR course was in 1993 when Mr. O had us in the wrestling room of my high school making out with the Annie doll. Back then it was something like 2 breaths to 4 compressions. Now it’s 5 sets of 2 breaths to 30compressions in sets under 22 seconds. Unless you’re fit this can be a long long LONG time.
These dolls were out of a bad horror film. I was waiting for Toby’s (that’s what I named mine) head to spin around and spew venom on me. 2 hours later Toby didn’t spew and Lushie treated me to Panera in Oakland. Still don’t get the obsession people have to that place. Oh well, at least I can save someone if they choke on a piece of bread.

Mayor Luke and Danny O, fresh off their excellent adventure, are giving the fans and the Steelers a well deserve parade. Some of us can’t make it or aren’t drunk enough to brave the cold have chosen to watch from online. This is the new media generation folks! Of course it’s online and here’s how you can engulf yourself in coverage while you should be working. I know I bitch about insane coverage but this is online, big difference.
Here is my album from the Super Bowl XL parade. It was just as cold then.
cheers!

Don’t look at me, I only had 1 beer all night but I’m sure most of the city today is sleeping in.
I won’t lie, with 1:30 left in the game I thought it was over. I wanted to believe there was a comeback in place but something just didn’t feel right. Then Dime Bag thankfully proved me wrong and life is good again in Steeler Nation.
I don’t think the realization of what happened last night has settled in for me yet. Counting all of the Super Bowls I’ve watched since I was a kid, this was my favorite and I’m not saying that because the Steelers won either. Tight scoring game, blood pressure probably maxing out at 160 with the holding call that resulted in a safety, every series felt dramatic. The game was exhausting to watch and I loved it.
Something was missing for me though. I had more fun celebrating Super Bowl XL due to the fact that was my first time seeing a Steelers Super Bowl win that I wasn’t an infant for. I bought the swag, went to the parade and took part in every celebration I could. This year I was cheering in my house but not to the same level as XL. I’m not really interested in the parade since I’ve already been there before and I may buy some collectibles for Teaspoon’s room but that’ll probably be it. Here is my collection from the Super Bowl XL parade.
I am happy though. Not to the level of burning couches like the idiots in Oakland but pretty high up there. This will be a great morale booster in a city where unemployment is increasing every day and we continue to fight the image of a burned out steel town from the 80’s. 6 Super Bowl titles… saying that just amazes me.
Couple observations from my captain’s chair:
Love’m or hate’m, Steelers are the 6 time champions of the NFL and you’re not
Go Pittsburgh!

We’re buds. Served in the war together.
This is my favorite holiday of the year.
