It’s currently -7F and with the windchill it’s -21F. I’m not kidding. The Weather Channel told me so.

Today is a good day to stay home. I can log into work from here, do my homework and get some reading done for class. The thing that, for some reason after 10 years here, still amazes me is the local coverage of weather. There is NO need for 4 people to be covering falling temperatures. NONE! Keep your reporters inside instead of freezing their butts off hanging out over the interstates.
Most Pittsburghers have lived here their whole lives and still act as if Winter is a new phenomenon. Part of it due to the hype and fear of Armageddon bestowed upon by local paranoid yinzers. Do the wise thing and stay indoors and unless you’re one of the crazy insane of us, bundle up.
How am I spending today? Working on Tea Spoon’s baby room with Lushie, doing homework and watching TV. Suck it up Pittsburgh and be smart.
cheers!

I’ve been thinking hard about developing a specific blog documenting my steps into fatherhood and Jackson’s early adventures into life. Here is my conflicting issue. I have no problem with people who blog about their kids, in fact I think it’s great and I subscribe to many of them (Burgh Baby being my absolute favorite), but when Jackson in his teens, goes into management or becomes some form of public figure, do I want to save him from the embarrassment factor that daddy talked about his first poo or posted pictures of him running around in his birthday suit when he was 2? Maybe this is something new in parenting I have to think about since everyone has a blog. What if in 10-15 years it doesn’t matter since everyone’s life is online anyway?
There is a line of privacy I do keep. Unless stamped with her approval, you wont see Lushie on here, I won’t specifically talk about my family or friends who aren’t already in some form of social media, and I wont post pics of friends/family without asking.
I’ve made the decision to make my life rather public to a point. I have a podcast and have written about alcohol so I know that there are pictures of me having a drink and socializing. That’s part of the gig. I don’t hide anything I do online because I’m a media creator. This is what I do. Jackson, however, hasn’t decided who he’s going to be. Heck, he’s still 3 months away from being born! Don’t get me wrong, I’ll have pics on this site and probably talk about parenting but for the most part I’m going to try and keep him offline until he’s at an age to choose for himself… like say at 30
Maybe I make a new blog about fatherhood in general and put my own restrictions on what I post.
I’m confused as to what I’m going to do so here is where I ask you, what do you think about documenting your child at such a young age. Where do you draw the line?
cheers!

So far I have:
- Started the gym thing again
- Stayed offline as much as I could while on vacation (not including job searches)
- Got the layoff (as in unemployment, not a typo’d playoff) beard started
- Watched a lot of Welcome Back Kotter
- Had a vision of how this site will be redesigned
- Made the rough sketch of a business idea that I’ll probably never do because it’s so badass the world couldn’t contain its awesomeness. Srsly.
- Created a baby registry and will have it public shortly.
- Registered for baby CPR classes
- Came up with another idea for a blog, just need a name for it.
- Kept my promise of 2009 being a bigger year for SIDT
OK that last one is vague but it has to be for now. How do we top being in national publications? You’ll find out shortly. Somehow I have been sucked into the enjoyment of new media marketing and pushing SIDT further. Sponsors maybe? exclusive road trips? bigger contests? Subscribe and you can have the next 11.5 months to find out
Here are some more random things…
- My bowling still is the sucketh. Maybe if I actually bought a decent ball and had time to practice I would be better. Maybe I could bring world peace but I don’t see that happening either.
- All of my in-laws are Penn State fans. I grew up loving and attended PITT. You can imagine what my holidays are like. 80 million vs one. Lushie eggs them on.
- We had an incredible meal at a new local restaurant. Manager asked me to suggest a new craft beer menu. That’s right, hell hath frozen over.
- Listening to Pearl Jam’s 10 and VS right now. I’m not kidding. There hasn’t been a greater band since.
- Bitch all you want that the Pens are the sucketh right now but they’re only 7 points out of first in the Atlantic or 3.5 games to you baseball folk. Beating Atlanta last night was like Kramer fighting kids. You’re expected to win and all it does is build confidence for playing Nashville, the “How did you get invited to the party?” of the NHL.
Escape is never the safest place. A dissident is here.

This year is already starting to look like a year of firsts. To kick it off in fashion the picture above is of my first beer. Not of the year but EVER. You can read about it at…
- Beer Porn – This is a collection of beer writers from all over the world and I’m one of them. See ma, i be puttin mah learnin to youse! Oh yeah and thanks for not keeping the beer locked up
- offspring – 110 days to go. *OYE*
- employment – By the end of Feb I’ll have turned in my badge after 10 years. I’m excited about the possibilities of starting something new.
- car payments – all vehicles will be paid off. yeah, I’m giddy
- motivation – with junior on his way there are a lot of changes that need to be made. Some personal, some for the family but all for the good. Ask me in a few months how it’s going.
- Yinz Team – we’re going to finish at least 1 softball game this year.
- degree – Depending on how the job thing goes I may take more classes and try to have my degree by year end. Either way I’m gunning for all A’s. Almost pulled it off this year.
- new media – working on some personal projects to keep me busy while I take time off from SIDT.
That’s my list for now. I have some time off before I go back to work late next week so we’ll see how much I get done around here. Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year!
