Flight 93 memorial

September 11th, 2008 1 comment

Most everyone out there will be writing tributes for 9/11 today. There really isn’t anything I could write that I haven’t said already over the last 7 years on my blogs so instead I’m sharing pictures that I took of the temp Flight 93 memorial on 9/1/03. I’ll never forget watching those buildings wall at work just as I got the video feed to spread around campus.

Photos from Flight 93 Memorial

I was already to vent about the smoking ban which took effect today but really, there are more important things at this moment. I have a more upbeat post coming later today so it’ll be all good.

Tomorrow will be an interesting day :)

cheers!

What does .1 look like in Fantasy Football?

That right there.

In the 2008/09 edition of the Yinz Team Celebrity Blogger/Podcaster Fantasy Football Because Hockey Hasn’t Started Yet League, I lost the first week by a score of 80.47 – 80.37 because Chester fucking Taylor couldn’t run one more yard.

It is Uncle Crappy though and since he is a talented journalist and craft beer enthusiast I won’t dog on him too bad. He does lead a life of ridicule being a Browns fan and that right there even makes Pope Benny XVI go “aw dude… sorry man.”

Just to recap, I lost to THIS guy.  I shall go into the box and feel much shame. Fuckin Chester.

prost!

Taco Bell’s Volcano Taco and a disappointing Burrito Supreme

September 8th, 2008 5 comments

I ordered one of these on my way through Monroeville before I hit the turnpike Saturday night. It was drive-thru so I don’t have a picture but it did look just like the commercial. Honestly I don’t see the hype. Red taco shell was the only impressive thought while  the taste was like their standard taco with a hot sauce.

1/2 way home on the drive it hit me. My stomach started to burn and I reached for the tums. For the next few hours I was in pain as I think the lava sauce was acid burning away from the inside out. Worst indigestion I’ve ever had from TB.

Think I’m crazy? Check out what 2 Bites in Suburbia has to say also!

To cool it off I also had a Burrito Supreme with me. One bite and I spit it out. The burrito was more like stale pita wrap from a 2 day old Giant Eagle meal AND it was only 1/4 of the way filled! Granted my total bill was $3.61 but come on, Mexican love is always cheap. It was my first Taco Bell meal in awhile and unfortunately the guilty pleasure of mine may now just stay a memory from the glorious meals I had from the 12 & Presque Isle location in Erie.

The only border I’m running to is the kitchen and bathroom where I’m sticking my head to flush this junk out of my system.

you’re not 18 anymore

I’ve played baseball of some form since I was 5 years old (for those keeping score, 27 years). As my 20′s came to an end I finally made the transition to softball shortly after busting up my hand at 3B while playing in NABA. I’ve always played baseball/softball the same way. You dive, you hustle, you get dirty and wounds will heal.

Friday was my company picnic and with it came the tarditional softball games vs the departments. The temps were high 90′s on the field and thankfully a steady supply of water was available. back to back games and 4 hours later I was a mess. After the first game I was already feeling the heat. I went 0-2 and had a couple put outs at 2B. Game 2 proved to be a recap of what I did wth Yinz Team this year. 2-3 and pitched for a complete game win. The moment of the game for me was in the first inning when I made a single into a double. I saw the ball was coming in on me so the natural reaction was to, as I always did in my high school days, slide head first. After a cloud of dirt I stood up safe but covered in dirt while my knee pad slipped down as the infield burned my knee and then it set it… the buddha was hurtin.

My hard outer shell protecting my 6pack abs took a beating. Honestly I never second guessed sliding but now, 2 days later, I’m feeling the effects of that decision. Granted I go to the gym but more conditioning will be needed before I do that again.

Jerry Reed passed away at age 71

Some may not know this but i’m a huge Smokey and the Bandit fan. Well of 1 and 2 at least. 3 was the corporate man trying to bleed the last few pennies out of the franchise. I admit that Jerry’s passing was a bit of a shock and when I first heard it this morning (on XM’s Hockey This Morning of all places) I was really bummed.  I just finished a Smokey and the Bandit marathon over the vacation.

I’ll raise a pint to you on our next show Snowman!

Think I need *one* more day off

September 1st, 2008 4 comments

2 weeks, over 1000 miles driven, 2 weddings, 3000 emails, 2500 Google Reader entries, a cleaned basement for Studio B to open and I’m still not ready to go back to work. So I’m taking one more day off. Actually for good reasons as I have 2 doc appointments. I’ll be back on track here this week while I’m still getting 300+ images and videos off my camera and reliving the 2 weeks where I didn’t have to think about work, crazy mailroom guy or Vista.

As an added bonus, this weekend will be Bachelor Weekend II. Not many chores left to do so Friday after work I may have to *cough* relax *cough* with a few beverages.

cheers!
