Domino’s Gotham City Pizza ripoff
Jul 9th, 2008 by douglas
Looks good doesn’t it? Yeah that’s what we thought also. We usually order from a local family joint but on this rare occasion an overstuffed pizza claiming that it had 50% more pepperoni than the standard was too good to pass up. Lushie called the local Domino’s to place the order and the guy had NO idea what she was talking about on top of his inability to speak English. This is no shit, she repeated the order 5 times. I left to pick it up and took the ad, which arrived in our mailbox, with me to show the person working.
What do I get when I open my box there?

Yeah doesn’t look a THING as the advertised one does it. The worker claimed that they never had the Special Box so I got the standard which was fine with me. It’s a freaking box but damn did it look cool in pictures. I look around the store and there are posters/signage EVERYWHERE with this special on it. You know, the one he didn’t know about. I asked the guy that took my order why this doesn’t match the picture. Now I know that it wont be an exact match but come on, LOOK at that. That’s a regular freaking pizza. He tells me that the picture isn’t accurate and that you don’t get extra pepperoni but extra cheeses. I tell him that it’s false advertising (especially when the sign in front of him says 50% more) and all of a sudden he’s back to not speaking English. Frustrated and hungry since Lushie and I both had little to eat and were busy all day, I took my pizza, wings and sticks (that was the deal we had available) back to the house. Guess what, Lushie has 2 bites and threw it out. Worst pizza ever.
Anyone can follow a freaking picture but I guess times have changed. I’m done with this place. There are at least 15 other pizza joints in the area I can go to.

Dude, maybe the Joker stole your pepperoni!
Seriously, sorry you had problems with your pizza, but that’s the kind of bullshit service we’ve all come to expect from chains like Dominos, and why we should all stop giving them our money. The family-run pizza joints will always get my patronage, because they deserve it. And they won’t screw you over, because if they do they know it’ll hurt their reputation (and word of mouth is the most important form of advertising). Dominos will survive, even with bad press like this. Mom & Pop won’t, and they know it - so they try harder. And I’m 100% behind that.
Whenever we want pizza, and I either don’t have time to make it, or I’m too lazy (usually the case) we order from our local family-run place here in Anaheim. Mama Cozza’s - http://mamacozzas.com
I had another idea. Let’s turn this into a positive. Since it’s agreed that Dominos sucks, what’s your favorite place for Pizza that isn’t run by a corporation? Let’s give them some FREE press here. Let’s hear it for all the holes in the wall out there in Pittsburgh and elsewhere!
I heard that a lot of chains now have their call centers in India. So the person you talk to when you order a pizza is halfway across the world! CRAZY!!
Veltries Pizza in White Oak all the Way! Or some Napolies in Monroeville
Wow thanks Phil and I like your idea!
The best I ever had is now out of business. It was JoJo’s in Bellevue. There was this 3 Brothers up in the Millcreek Mall that i used to go to as a kid which was insanely good.
I’m fond of Gino’s and Monte Cello’s in Cranberry Township and this place on the south side that I’m brain farting on it’s name. Someone help me out here.
Actually, I was quite happy with Little Caesars, but they are quite sparse around the Burgh. IMHO you can’t go wrong with Amatos in Etna, Mineos in Squirrel Hill and Tommaneti’s in Oakmont.
Since we used to a lot, I used to order chain pizza on the run because of the easy access. I remember calling a Pizza hut a couple months ago, and they had to transfer me to two other people just to take an order. I can’t even call a pizza place directly? Come on.
*used to move a lot.
Anyway, I hope this is somehow forwarded to Dominoes, even if it doesn’t make a huge difference. Ridiculous.
I found out last time I called Pizza Hut that it was taken by some woman in her house in Maine and then she’d send it to the store. Lushie thought that would be a great job for stay at home moms.
I am sending a message to Dominos about this. To blatantly sell the wrong item is a freak joke.
I miss when Little Sleezers was big in the mid/late 90’s they had some rockin pizza.
Good luck sending a message to Domino’s … I had a similar problem with Pizza Hut, I filled out a nice form on their website, but never got a response … you’ll feel better about it, but don’t expect anything.
Favorite local pizza’s: Campittis in Dormont and Granny’s in Bethel Park (The “big mamma” with sweet sauce, yumm)
Ever try Fratto’s in Erie (6th and cascade across from Gerboth’s beer distributor) ? It’s closed now, but i worked there back in college
I work with Domino’s Pizza and apologize for your recent experience with our chain. This is not up to the standards we strive to achieve.
You are correct that your Gotham City Pizza should have come with 50% more pepperoni and a standard portion of cheese. Based on the photo included with your post, you did not receive the deal you requested.
As with all orders placed at Domino’s Pizza, we guarantee your satisfaction - this time we appear to have fallen short. Please visit and fill out our customer comment form. We review every correspondence and will address your concerns at our soonest opportunity.
Unfortunately, this blog did not allow me to post the link for Domino’s customer service. Please visit our website and click the “Contact Us + FAQ” link on the lower portion of the page. Then click “Send us and Email”. This will provide you the necessary form.
The pizza place on the South Side that I liked to nosh on when drunk is Vesuvio’s.
I’m not against chain pizza places but Erie is home to some great indy joints. My favorites are Pio’s on East Avenue (their lasagna pizza rocks the house) and Papa Joe’s Pepperoni Cafe on West 8th (breakfast pizza and the chicken ranch pie are yummy).
I miss Four Star Pizza and Pizza Boy in the mall. At Pizza Boy back in the day, 5 bucks would get me two slices as big as my head, a drink, and about two hours of run on NBA Jam in Tilt. Who could front on an afternoon of New York style pizza and the animated three point skills of Scott Skiles?
Oh, and do the classy thing, Domino’s. Hook Spoon up with a semi truck full of pepperoni…
Being an independent business owner, I usually try to patronize indy pizza joints, but have been known to hit up a Pizza Hut or two on occasion. Around the city, I’m a big believer in Aiello’s or Mineo’s - both in Squirrel Hill.
That’s nice that a Domino’s rep commented…too bad it was probably Chachi playing a joke on you.
Wow a reply from Dominos. Well i did check the IP and host. Sure enough it’s legit. I’ll be sending a message tonight/tomorrow now that I’m back online.
Oh man 4 star Pizza! they used to sponsor everything for the Pirates. Only one I remember in Erie was on W26th ST by the 79 exit.
If you copy/paste a url it automatically becomes a link. good times.
It’s cool to see that Domino’s is searching out the web for negative comments and then taking the time to respond. Did you ever write to them as they advised? Did you hear back from them?
I posted on my blog over a year ago about how I couldn’t stand my Motorola RAZR phone. I got an email from them a week later and got a brand new top-of-the-line RAZR in the mail. Imagine that!
Domino’s does suck on odd occasion,
the best place we have had pizze, hubby and me, is at a local store,
Good Things Variety, Saco St, Westbrook, Maine,
their great,
and great staff working there too,
good day to all
Joanne
Well so much for that. Not a word about my complaint. Sucks too because up until this point I really loved their pizza.
Thanks for the comment Joanne! One thing that people all over the country can agree on is their favorite local pizza.
When I was in high school we basically had 20 minutes to scarf down food. Once day I grabbed a slice of pizza and knocked over some ranch dressing. turned out to be fantastic. Now I can order rancher pizzas just about everywhere.
