I said what?

April 30th, 2008 douglas No comments

I’m sitting here finishing up the next EP for my podcast when a barrage of emails start coming in. Apparently I was mentioned in this article on ESPN the Magazine. To find out where the quote came from click here.

Thanks to everyone who sent it in to me and as an FYI, I’ll finally be back to writing on a regular basis tomorrow or Friday so then the bashing can resume. That was a nice break from being online. Next Wednesday the Hump Day happiness will be back also.

cheers!

Lushie’s Driving Lesson 101

April 25th, 2008 douglas 4 comments
There comes a time in every married bloggers life when their significant other needs to blow off some steam and do it on your blog. My wife, the beloved Lushie, needs vent her frustration over her morning drive today. This probably won’t be her last…

**** Lushie’s Driving Lesson 101 ****
1. The pedal on the right is the gas, it makes you go. The pedal on the left is the break, it makes you stop. If you have two pedals on the left the smallest is the clutch. If you do not know how to use the clutch pull over immediately.
2. Red means stop, even if you are in a SUV. Green means go. Yellow means caution. Yellow does not mean sit in the intersection.
3.The left lane on I-79 and I-279 is the “fast” lane. If you are not driving fast move over. This is also known as the passing lane not the “fix your make-up lane”.
4. Stop signs regardless of the white line around it means STOP. This means that if you have a car in front of you that is stopped then you must also stop. Now here is the kicker with the stop sign; even if you stop for the car in front of you, YOU STILL HAVE TO STOP AT THE STOP SIGN! Just like in kindergarten you have to wait your turn.

Parking lessons:
1. If you can not parallel park then please don’t try.
2. If you dive an SUV, truck or van, you do not have a compact car. Regardless of what you feel you are entitled to, you can not fit properly in a compact car parking space.
3. If you are not handicap and you park in handicap parking YOU ARE AN ASSHOLE!

My vote went to…

Gary Roberts for President
(image from thepensblog.com)

I’m not kidding. I wrote in Gary Roberts. I make it a point to keep political talk off of here unless it really chaps my ass and yesterday I finally had enough. I would have had a pic of my ballot but the person working warned me against doing so a couple times. He musta been a Sens fan.

Before you get all huffy let me explain why I did what I did. As a registered democrat my options suck and blow all at the same time. I can’t stomach Hil-dawg or Obama. At first it was a personal preference. Hillary has always been on my jagoff list. She’s smug, elitist and thinks her shit doesn’t stink. I’ve never seen a more arrogant person in politics… until I saw Obama. He always came across to me as a cocky snob who thought he knew everything about everything and you’re a fool for not agreeing. Personal feelings aside I looked at where they stand on issues and quite honestly, they’re pretty damn identical. What was I to do?

I studied their websites, listened to the debates and after not being able to find a favorite decided to ask people I knew who they were voting for. What I found was a disgusting display of loyalty. It one thing to support your candidate, I’m all for it, but people were psycho obsessed. I received email forwards that are flat out lies about both candidates and when I called the senders on it with proof from online it was met with “who cares. you shouldn’t vote for them”. OK, so we’re in the business of spreading lies.

Along came the supporters who were over the top obsessed. I was bombarded with IM’s from both groups with links to tabloid worthy news. Even when I said to stop they continued spamming me which is why, after reading this, they’ll now realize I have them blocked. I would go as far as to say that these followers would kill if they knew it would be preventing a vote for the other candidate.

I was more irritated than motivated so I had to ask myself “Who is the lesser of 2 evils?”. My wife told me why she was voting for her candidate and I was considering joining her. Until I saw the following story on CNN.

Crazy bitch Nora Ephron wrote about how if you’re a white male (hey that’s me) and you vote for Clinton you’re a racist. If you vote for Obama, you’re a sexist. (link to the whole story). That’s right. Check out the link from the story. Either way I had enough. I was fed up with politics as a whole. Fuck’m eh? This was yet another example of why I’m done with everyone being so freakin extreme. Know why i didn’t vote for your candidate? Because YOU made me.

This was my vote and it was not wasted. It was spent on who I thought deserved it. The point finally came where I couldn’t justify giving either person my vote. Just because it didn’t go the way you wanted doesn’t make it any more right or wrong. I did research my votes for the local races so I wasn’t completely irritated. Gary Roberts would make a damn fine president. Well, if he wasn’t Canadian already.

Now if Sorgatron was on the ballot it would be a different story. :)

people who should steer clear of me right now:

1) Hillary or Obama extremists
2) people who screw up traffic flow for the rest of us because you need to get 1 car length ahead
3) books
4) family talking of organizing functions this summer
5) Asshole Frank from the Cranberry P.O.
6) Anyone treating the Steelers summer training as news and lead the broadcast with it
7) Flyers Fans

SWEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Before I get sliced and diced open today I wanted to make sure that we all take a moment to sit back and bask in the glow of the Penguins 4-0 sweep of the Ottawa Senators. The one thing I’ve missed since I’ve had to spend time offline is being able to talk hockey on here.

If you want the best coverage in town check out thepensblog.com. Ottawa Media and Sens bloggers alike tried to stand their ground against Pens fans but as you can see after Game 3, they just wanted the misery to end.

cheers!

Missing: the utensil

Hey strangers. Well, I guess that’s what you could say to me now that I think of it. For the record I haven’t pod/blogfaded or any of that jive. I’m actually in my favorite chair at home and watching Sunday playoff hockey on NBC.

I’m on an unplanned hiatus and hope to be back soon. Long story but not to worry. I have some good people workin on me.

Amazing what it takes to make you realize you’re not invincible anymore :)
