Today’s the last day for me to raise $2000 for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Lock UP. Anything you can give is much appreciated. We’re getting closer to the goal!
There is also a form you can print out if you wish to mail a check (address is on form). Let me know if you are sending a check so I can mark it in my total.
I’m doing this in honor of my father, Robert Sr., who passed away on December 6th of last year. He was my biggest supporter not only for MDA but also with everything in my life. I found it only fitting to make my biggest challenge yet in his memory.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
Thanks!
Douglas
Woy inspired me to add this after reading his post for today. He’s uber obsessed with All 4 One so I thought I’d share the bestest greatest dog gone video ever made.
Ladies and gentlemen… Tommy Seebach’s Apache!

In August we finished moving the last of the large items into our new place. Unfortunately the deep freeze didn’t make the trip. It was a couple inches too wide and I really didn’t feel like taking out a door frame for the thing. My brother suggested that we haul it over to Construction Junction. I’ve heard of the place but have never been there before. Never had a reason really.
Holy hell what a find this place is. You can find ANYTHING for a house there and at a great price.
They also hosted a brew fest on September 15th. We recorded Episode 26 from the Steel City Big Pour. The brewers we loved sampling were VooDoo (Meadville) Sprague Farm (Venango), East End (Pittsburgh) and Marzoni’s (Allison Park).
Oh yeah, if you end up buying a deep freeze from them with a Dogfish Head sticker in the upper left corner on the front let me know. I’ll come over and autograph it for you

I’ve made an honest effort to get into MNF on ESPN and last night’s debacle is why I will not continue giving the show hope. Tony Kornheiser needs to go. The man finds one single point and beats it to death. My brother and I talked about this today. Tony would not get off the fact that Ricky Williams loved weed. From pre-game until the final whistle Tony would repeat “Well you know Ricky loves pot”, “Hey Ricky smoked pot!”. They were shots Tony needs to leave for PTI. We all knew he smoked up and mentioning once would have been fine but no, that was all he could bring to the show. My brother watched it with his young boys who were even tired of it.
Tony, you are on a national show that is a part of football history. PTI is just another sports show on ESPN where 2 people rant for 30 minutes. MNF is an institution and is not the place for you to carry over your cheap antics.
As for the swamp that was Heinz Field last night… disgraceful. When word spread of no national anthem… disrespectful.

Normally in late November we would have snow but not this year. Today has been non-stop rain and above shows you the mess that will hit Monday Night Football tonight for the Steelers/Dolphins game.
I really have no problem with rain vs snow as long as a) it doesn’t freeze b) it doesn’t flood my basement. It does bother me that the seasons have changed so drastically over the last 2 years. So what is causing this? What do YOU think it is?

This is us from a wedding we went to last night. I post it because she will beat the tar out of anyone who tries to take her picture. Congrats to Eddie and Erika and good luck!

I picked up a case of this year’s version of Ol’ Red from Erie Brewing. For years this has been one of the few beers that I wait to hit the Pittsburgh market since it is a limited brew. This year is 1% higher in alcohol to push it to 10.1% and has another new name. From what I learned via email from Erie Brewing that they were served a “Cease and Desist” letter (hence the name) because the old logo was a kid with an eye patch and b.b. gun ala A Christmas Story.
Ok, now the beer. I broke my rule and bought a case of something I never tasted. Usually I try a bottle at 3 Sons Dogs n Suds first. At $30 a case at Save on Beer I figured wtf, why not. First off it’s 10.1% so that right there makes it a buy. It’s a scottish style ale with a hint of alcohol taste. Not like Ole Heathen but it’s noticeable. It has great head retention with a perfect 2 finger pour and a nice malt finish.
I give it a thumbs up. Overall I think this is one of my favorite Erie beers. I did get a sample of the Misery Bay IPA while at the Great International Beer Fest last weekend. You will be in for a GREAT surprise once it’s available.

I last worked retail in 1998 at Staples in Erie (not the one in the picture). It was a love/hate relationship with the job. I loved talking about computers and technology but hated the arrogance of the general Erie customer. Granted I had some wonderful customers who came to me all of the time but there were thorns in my side (like Doug Thurston at Erie Computer) who acted holier than thou and to this day remind me of why I left.
That said, Black Friday 98 was my last day in retail. I told myself that when times get rough I want a reminder to not give up. Working retail in general on Black Friday is a horrible experience. Selling technology is the pinnacle. We had received our BF ad weeks in advance so we could get the merch in to fill the ad. When I showed up at 5am people were camping out and asking if I could reserve items for them. Doors opened at 6 and were were slammed all morning.
Common sense is out the door on Black Friday. Rational thinking is out the window. When you show up 6 hours after a store opens on the biggest shopping day and expect to get an item from an ad, you deserve to get hit. My last customer berated me for 15 minutes on false advertising, bait and hook marketing and how horrible of a person “I” was because we sold all 20 of a certain computer. It got to the point that the store manager had to separate us because this guy was freaking out so bad and called everyone a motherf*cker. I knew my time was done at the store so I turned to the guy and did what every employee wishes they could do. I put the guy in his spot. I told him just because it’s retail doesn’t mean we’re not human beings. The guy was shocked as if it was the first time anyone stepped up to him. The last thing I said which still is fresh in my head 9 years later “Oh behalf of everyone you’ve screamed at today. Go f*ck yourself. I’m moving to Pittsburgh!” I took off my Staples shirt, laid it on the counter and walked out.

Something came up so we decided to stay in Pittsburgh this year and have dinner ourselves. We had turkey, green bean casserole, homemade gravy and mashed taters, cranberries and cheesy veggies. Dessert was homemade apple pie with ice cream.
Round 2 tonight – we’re vegging on the couch with some shrimp cocktail and a brie with a sundried tomato pesto. We know how to live it up. Plus I have a case of delicious Old Red Cease & Desist from Erie Brewing.
I hope you have a safe and happy thanksgiving!
It has been 15 months since I was originally “sent to jail” for the MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) Lock UP. In that time I have been able to spend it closely with the organization and the great people involved to see first hand how your donations are being used. It was put into perspective when one mother sent me a heartwarming letter saying thanks along with a picture of her son who I was able to assist and send to camp.
Now I’m asking you for help on my biggest event yet. I have been given the task of raising $2000 by the end of November (11/30). I know that the holidays are quickly approaching so I appreciate any help you can give.

I say after hours because Lushie was in bed by the time I finished so she didn’t see the mess I made of the living room. May not look like much but it’s a start!
